GETTING STARTED

It's the first day of class in Degree, I'm glad to see my friends from foundation again as well as lots of new faces from all around the globe. For our first assignment, foundation students must at least pick one new student to group with, leading them as well as to guide them for this assignment.

ASSIGNMENT BRIEF

Our first assignment is to design an edutainment space to educate as well as entertain children. We were assigned to have at least three people in a group. Foundation students must take in at least one new student to guide them as they are new to the university life. We are required to have a site analysis which is the PRO Studio located at the lower ground floor of Taylor's University's Commercial Block. Case study and researches about this assignment must be done to improve our design. Finally, a short lecture had been given by both of my lecturers about The Seven Elements of Design, which must be applied in our assignment as well as out future designs.

THE 7 ELEMENTS OF DESIGN

1. Line - Line can be considered in two ways. The linear marks made with a pen or brush or the edge created when two shapes meet.

2. Shape - A shape is a self contained defined area of geometric or organic form. A positive shape in a painting automatically creates a negative shape.

3. Colour - Colour is used to generate emotions, define importance, create visual interest and unify branding.

4. Size - Size is simply the relationship of the area occupied by one shape to that of another.

5. Texture - Texture is the surface quality of a shape - rough, smooth, soft hard glossy etc. Texture can be physical or visual.

6. Value - Value is the lightness or darkness of a colour. Value is also called Tone.

7. Space - Space is the area around the elements in a design. It can be used to separate or group information. Use it effectively to give the eye a rest, define importance and lead the eye to where you want it to travel.

SITE ANALYSIS

We are required to analyse the PRO Studio located at the lower ground floor of The Broadwalk which is the commercial block of Taylor's University Lakeside Campus. On the right shows the map to the campus and below are some of the pictures of the campus and the PRO Studio as well as some of the facilities around it. We have decided to design an edutainment space with the theme of science and astronomy, below are the presentation boards done by us for the final presentation.
